FTP File Transfer Protocol: How Do I Use Microsoft Publisher For FTPMicrosoft Publisher 2000 helps you easily create, customize, and publish materials such as newsletters, brochures, flyers, catalogs, and Web sites. Publish easily on your desktop printer. Steps for Uploading a file:- After designing the site in the Microsoft Publisher, click File and 'export' it as a web document. The option to 'Export as Web Page'
should be roughly in the middle of the dropdown menu, assuming all options
are visible. Click A dialogue box pops up showing where Publisher is about to save the file. Make note of where it is saving your page as this information will be needed later. Type a name for your site and click 'Save' Publisher now wants confirmation. Click 'Yes' to save the document as a web site (e.g. an HTML document). Publisher has now saved the project as a web site and returned the view to the main window. Your site is ready for upload. Publisher does not have a built-in upload utility. Its help file recommends using Microsoft's Web Publishing Wizard, though any FTP client would do. If Microsoft\'s Web Publishing Wizard is installed there should be a shortcut for it inside the Start Menu in one of two areas. First click on Start and go to Programs. The first place to look is in the Accessories directory, as shown below. The second is in a directory for Internet Explorer, if one exists. Once you find the shortcut click on it. Take the initial screen of Microsoft's Web Publishing Wizard. It cautions that certain information is required to use the wizard. The hostname, username, and password are all that most people will need. Once this information has been obtained click 'Next.' Now the Wizard needs to know the location of the files it is supposed to publish. These files will be in the folder that they were saved in earlier, through Publisher. To locate them click 'Browse Folders.' This dialogue box shows the folders that have been setup your computer. Find the one for your Publisher project and click on it. Most likely it will be under found inside the My Documents folder. Once you have highlighted the folder click 'OK.' The Web Publishing Wizard has been busy storing information for your site under a profile. It now needs you to give this profile a name. This can be anything you wish. After typing the name you want, click 'Advanced.' Now choose 'FTP' from the dropdown list. Doing so should enable your upload to go as smoothly as possible. Once FTP is listed in the box click 'Next.' At this point the Wizard needs the hostname for your hosting account. Usually this is the same as the URL for the web site. Subfolders are seldom required. Type the hostname and then click 'Next.' The Web Publishing Wizard is finally ready to try the upload. Click 'Finish' and the Wizard will try to upload your site. Once the Wizard successfully contacts your hosting server it will ask you for the username and password that goes with your hosting account. Type both of these in and click the 'OK' button. To continue this tutorial click 'OK' in the screenshot below. Lastly the Wizard will upload your files and then tell you when it is done. As always, it is wise to visit a web site that you have just published in order to verify that it is displaying as intended. To exit the Wizard click the 'OK' button
