FTP File Transfer Protocol: How To Upload Using Claris

Using Claris Homepage 3.0 To Transfer Your Files To The Server

The following instructions will assist you setting up and using Claris Homepage to upload your project to the Museum\'s server. Please note: these instructions will work for both PC and MacIntosh computers that have a connection to the Internet. In addition to transferring files to the Museum\'s Server, Claris can also be used to transfer files to any other kind of server whether it is on a PC or MacIntosh computer.

Configuring the Software

Open the Webpage you want to upload to the Server. Click on the "Upload" button on the top right of the screen.

A new window should appear like the one below.

Under "Upload" check "Include image files".

Next click on "Set FTP Options...".

To connect onto the Museum\'s server you need to enter the "Server Name" as "www.museum.siu.edu".

Each school has been given a name which should be entered in the "User Name" box.

Each school\'s Password is also unique. When you were given a user name you were also asked to choose a password. Enter your password in the "Password" box.

The Remote folder directs Claris to upload to your folder on the Museum\'s server. Follow the address listed in the example above, but change the last section from "yourusernamehere" to your own unique user name (i.e.: uhigh, salem, trico, etc.).

Now click "OK".

Next, a window will open asking about your preferences for consolidating files. This is asking you if you want all the pictures, movies, etc. that you have placed on your Webpage also uploaded to the server. Select "in a separate media folder" under "Consolidate media files". Under "Media folder name:" type in the name of the folder on your computer that you are storing all your images in (this would typically be images, or pictures, or picts). Now click on "Consolidate".

I

If Claris was unable to find files you have placed on your page, then it will ask you to locate them. Once all the files have been located then press "OK". If you were successful in transferring your Webpage you will not see any further windows or warnings from Claris. Congratulations! You have transfered your first Webpage! You will need to upload each Webpage that you created for your project using this method.
