FTP File Transfer Protocol: Protecting Shared Borders From Accidental Edits In FrontPageProtecting shared borders from accidental edits in FrontPage Shared borders are special regions in a FrontPage document in which other documents-e.g., left.htm, top.htm-are displayed. FrontPage makes it easy-perhaps too easy-to edit the contents of these other documents. The best way to protect a shared border\'s content is to replace it with an Include Page component. To do so, first make your _borders folder, where documents like left.htm are saved, visible. You can do that by choosing Web Settings from the Tools menu. Switch to the Advanced property sheet and click on the check box labeled either Show Hidden Files And Folders or Show Documents In Hidden Directories. Click OK to continue. test. Now, open left.htm (the original file) and delete all the content that appears in it. Add an Include Page component. (In FrontPage 2002, choose Web Components from the Insert menu; then, in the Web Components dialog box that appears, choose Included Content from the Component Type scrolling list box and Page from the Choose A Type Of Component list box. Click Finish. In FrontPage 2000, choose Insert | Component | Include Page. In FrontPage 98 Editor, choose FrontPage Component from the Insert menu to access the Insert FrontPage Component dialog box. Select Include Page and click OK.) In the Include Page Properties dialog box, specify left_content.htm as the page to be included. Then, click OK to close the dialog box. Save and close left.htm and reopen one of the pages to which you previously applied the shared border. At first glance, the page will look exactly as it did before. When you move the mouse pointer over the shared border, however, you\'ll see that you can no longer directly edit the text. |
